Weekly Transfer Update: Liverpool Eyes Hato; Arsenal Planning Moves?

The Exciting Summer Transfer Window: What’s Happening in the Premier League?

As of June 27, 2025, the Premier League’s transfer window is officially open, setting the stage for a summer filled with potential blockbuster signings. With European leagues set to follow suit on July 1, the anticipation surrounding player movements is palpable. Here’s what we know about ongoing transfer activities and potential maneuvers across teams.

Liverpool: Redefining Defense

Liverpool has hit the ground running with an impressive £170 million spent on reinforcements, but the spotlight now shifts to their defense. With academy graduate Jarell Quansah set to complete a move to Bayer Leverkusen, the need for fresh defensive talent is more pressing than ever.

Marc Guéhi, the Crystal Palace center-back and a rising star in English football, has emerged as a prime candidate for Liverpool. At just 24 years old, Guéhi combines youth with substantial experience both domestically and in international tournaments, making him an attractive addition to Klopp’s squad. The fact that he has only one year remaining on his contract may allow Liverpool to land him for a relatively modest fee, a tempting prospect in today’s inflated market.

In addition to Guéhi, the club’s interest in Ajax’s 19-year-old defender Jorrel Hato has caught eyes across Europe. While Hato, capable of playing both as a center-back and left-back, represents significant potential, Ajax is determined to keep the young talent for another season, complicating his transfer prospects.

Outgoing Moves From Anfield?

Despite the flurry of incoming talent, Liverpool’s transfer activity could ultimately hinge on outgoings. Striker Darwin Núñez is rumored to be on his way out, with Napoli leading the charge for his signature. Should Núñez leave, Liverpool will actively search for a new No. 9, albeit only if the market presents them with an ideal option.

Midfielder Harvey Elliott’s future is also under scrutiny. Having noted his limited playing time last season, Elliott has expressed a desire not to "waste years" at Anfield, placing him on the radar of clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion.

Arsenal: Quiet Yet Calculated

Arsenal, on the other hand, may not have made any significant moves yet, but that will change soon. Reports suggest the Gunners are on the verge of announcing the £5 million signing of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, alongside imminent negotiations for midfielder Martín Zubimendi at £51 million from Real Sociedad.

While they’ve been linked to various center-back targets, including Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera, the Gunners face stiff competition as any young back would have a considerable challenge in breaking up the established partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães. The real concern, however, lies at the center-forward position, where the club is still evaluating high-value targets like RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, valued at around £70 million.

Spurs Eyeing Eze

Tottenham Hotspur is keen on making a statement this summer through a potential signing of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. The club sees Eze as an ideal replacement for a possible outgoing Son Heung-Min, who remains a target for other European clubs. While Eze has made it clear he is not pushing for a departure, a well-crafted bid of around £70 million could prompt Palace to reconsider their stance.

Barcelona’s Araújo and Other European Updates

Switching gears to Spain, Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo is generating buzz due to a €65 million release clause that becomes available in early July. Sporting director Deco has publicly stated that Araújo is not for sale; however, the club’s financial predicament could lead to reconsideration. Clubs like Bayern Munich and Juventus have shown interest in the past, making him a player to watch closely.

Meanwhile, there are whispers of interest in Napoli’s high-performing midfielder Scott McTominay, who shone during the last Serie A season. Despite substantial offers from Saudi clubs, Napoli reportedly has no intention of letting their standout player go unless he strongly advocates for a move.

Other Noteworthy Rumors

As clubs continue to make their moves, the buzz around free agent Jonathan David grows louder. The Lille striker is in high demand, with potential suitors ranging from Juventus to various teams across Turkey and Saudi Arabia eyeing the prospect of acquiring his services.

Additionally, a range of transfers is in the pipeline across Europe. AC Milan is interested in Club Brugge’s Ardon Jashari, while Atlético Madrid has been working hard to secure deals for multiple players, including Johnny Cardoso of Real Betis.

As the summer unfolds, one thing is for sure: the transfer window promises excitement and unexpected movements that could reshape teams across Europe. This flurry of activity will be closely watched as teams strive to perfect their rosters ahead of the next season.
